Talpa launches the I Want Your Song World Cup special
In cooperation with the dutch football association
The World Cup is fast approaching and this calls for a new national soccer anthem in the Netherlands: one song the entire nation can sing along to during the November tournament. However, that song hasn’t been written yet. That’s why a new, one-off live TV special of the songwriter competition I Want Your Song is currently in production. I Want Your Song – the search for the new national soccer anthem will be broadcast live on Saturday, October 29, at 8 PM on SBS6.
The first season of I want your song scored solid ratings last summer on SBS6. The show resulted in a number 1 hit for Dutch singer Mart Hoogkamer, who will be at the center of this one-off special. Six songwriters have each written a soccer anthem, which they’ll pitch in the studio one by one, accompanied by a live band, to Mart and a studio audience filled with enthusiastic soccer fans. The viewers at home, just like the fans, get to vote for their favorite song, but singer Mart makes the final decision, because this could become his new hit. The show ends with his live performance of the winning anthem. The song will be launched on a national radio station, Radio 538, and is immediately available for download and streaming – ready to storm the charts. A dream come true for any songwriter.
I Want Your Song is a format from Rochford Productions and Talpa Concepts. Rochford’s executive producer, Chris Hopkins, is excited about all the possibilities with these one-off specials: “The great thing about this format is that it’s adaptable for events and occasions celebrated in different countries around the world, even down to the simplest ideas- like a Christmas special.”
The show is distributed by Talpa Distribution.
